"Entrenched (A message from Tommy (C)atkins at the Front)"

Parkin's Louis Wain's Cats describes this picture such:

A postcard from the trenches in France during the First World War, with Tommy (C)atkins sending a pointed message to would-be mother-in-laws at home that not only were soldier-cats "Entrenched" but "Safe from match-making maniacs—Hull o you Girls!"

The original of this picture is in the collection of David Michael Tibet and inspired these lines from the lyrics to "The Bloodbells Chime" on All the Pretty Little Horses:

Tommy Katkins still sends his regards, frozen
    for ever on some animal Somme. The last
thing on his mind is marriage, but the call of
    Home and Heart)
